Passengers with a disablement / wheelchair

You have limited personal mobility and wish to travel onboard the Glacier Express? In this section, you'll find all the necessary information to help make your journey as pleasant as possible.

Invalidenabteil Panoramawagen 1. Klasse
Invalidenabteil Panoramawagen 1. Klasse

Basically, every Glacier Express train is fitted with one wheelchair compartment, as well as a toilet suitable for use by disabled persons, in the first class section.

Seat reservations in the Glacier Express are also mandatory for a wheelchair user and their accompanying person. When making a seat reservation at a railway station ticket counter or a travel agency, a space (seat) for a wheelchair must be specifically requested (seat 11). No right to transportation exists without a seat reservation.

  • If the disabled guest cannot leave his/her wheelchair during the journey, the seat reservation must be made through Glacier Express Central Reservations (Tel. +41 (0)27 927 71 27 or by mail).
  • Disabled passengers who are not confined to their wheelchairs during the journey, however, can reserve their seats using the normal Seat reservation service.

As the seat is removed before the train departs for the embarkation station, the reservation must be made, at the latest, 24 hours prior to the time of travel in the Glacier Express.

Arrival time
Where assistance by railway personnel is required, we kindly ask you to arrive on the respective platform next to the mobile lift 10 minutes prior to the train departure time.

Tickets
For passengers with a disablement (accompanying person's card for Swiss citizens):
Are you resident in Switzerland and dependent on an accompanying person? If so, you are entitled to free travel for your accompanying person and/or a guide dog for the blind. A single valid travel ticket will suffice for both persons and, if necessary, the guide dog. When you are asked to present your tickets, please show the accompanying person's card together with the valid travel ticket. The accompanying person must be able to assist you during the entirety of the journey.

Disabled persons and accompanying persons who are not resident in Switzerland have no entitlement to any price reductions.
